Description of Citronella Essential Oil
Citronella is derived from a scented grass. It is steam distilled to produce an essential oil that is yellowish brown in color with a powerful lemony scent. Its main countries of origin include Sri Lanka, Madagascar and South America.
Citronella essential oil's main chemical constituents are citronellal and geraniol.
Because of it germ-fighting properties, it is a great essential oil to use for cleaning any surface.
When venturing into the great outdoors, Citronella essential oil is to blend into a body spray, as it will help to keep those flying pests off your skin! A few drops in water, on candles or burners is also very effective. Mixed with a vegetable carrier oil and rubbed onto the skin, it will keep mosquitoes from biting.
Citronella essential oil blends well with Bergamot essential oil, Lemon essential oil, Orange essential oil and Lemongrass essential oil, creating a fresh, uplifting and extremely CLEAN smelling blend.
Specific Cautions for Citronella Essential Oil
May irritate sensitive skin and can cause dermatitis in some individuals. Avoid during pregnancy.
