Dioptase, a copper silicate mineral, is most commonly found in oxidized zones of copper deposits, particularly in arid regions. It's known for its vibrant emerald green color and can be found in several locations worldwide, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Namibia, Kazakhstan, Arizona, and Chile. But it isn't easy to come by.
This mineral occurs around other copper bearing minerals such as Chrysocolla, Malachite and Shattuckite. It forms on copper veins that have been exposed to extensive oxidation. The color can range from a deep emerald green to a lighter green that can resemble a slight blue hue.
Not only is it strikingly beautiful, but it's also one of the rarest minerals on the market, with only a few known localities worldwide. This mineral is quite popular among avid crystal collectors and crystal healers.
This mini cluster is considered to be gem grade, and is stunning. It has a deep teal-blue colour, and is among the most beautiful specimens we've ever had in the shop. It comes to us via the Tucson Gem Show, and it was ethically sourced in Namibia.
We have only ever had Dioptase once before, so grab it if it calls to you - it won't last long.
