A sub-variety of chalcedony is an opaque quartz termed jasper. Jaspers contain enough foreign materials or impurities to render them opaque. Jaspers can be found in an array of colours. The presence of Iron Silicate compounds such as chlorite gives the crystal its green colour.
Among jaspers, green is considered the most balanced and stable. Green Jasper was such a famous stone in ancient times that its name can be found in Arabic, Persian, Hebrew, Assyrian, Greek, and Latin texts. It is still considered a nurturing, healing, and strengthening stone.
