Palo Santo (Burseara Graveolens) or "Holy Wood" is a tree that grows on the coast of South America and is related to Frankincense, Myrrh and Copal.
It is an aromatic wood used for centuries by the Incas and other cultures as a spiritual remedy. Used for incense and smudging it creates a pleasant, fresh smelling smoke with hints of mint and citrus with underlying notes of frankincense. Thought to purge bad spirits, it is also said that it enhances creativity and brings good fortune.
Each long burning wood stick measures approximately 3.5" - 4" and can be lit and used many times. Sold in singles.
Peruvians harvest fallen branches and twigs of the B. graveolens tree, a practice that is regulated by the government of Peru, so trees are not cut for wood harvesting.
TIP: If you split these wood pieces with a gentle tap using a screw driver and hammer, you can then burn slivers of the wood instead of the whole stick. You many only need to burn a small piece. The best way to burn Palo Santo is in smaller pieces, instead of lighting the entire stick at once.
Note: This Palo Santo comes from Peru. Palo Santo trees are strictly regulated by the government in Peru. Sustainability is one of the main reasons we chose our current supplier who obtain this wood ethically and responsibly.
