In ancient Egypt, the scarab beetle symbolized rebirth, resurrection, transformation, and growth. The Egyptians believed the scarab was closely associated with the sun god, Khepri. People wore scarab amulets for good luck and protection. The bodies of the dead were adorned with scarabs to ensure a safe passage to the afterlife. Scarabs were used as seals from the Middle Kingdom onwards. The scarab was seen as a reflection of the eternal cycle of life. The scarab was associated with the ideas of existence, manifestation, development, growth, and effectiveness.
