Sapphire is the blue variety of Corrundum, part of the Ruby family and is a crystalline form of alluminum oxide. What makes this version of corrundum blue are the trace amounts of iron, titanium, chromium, vanadium and magnesium. 

Sapphire is often used to help ward off unwanted negative thoughts and to enhance joy in life. It is believed to help open the mind to possibilities and intuition. It is said to help in the achievement of goals. It is the birthstone for September.
