Opal is a silica, which contains water. Because of it's lack of clearly defined form, it is classified as a mineraloid. It forms under relatively low temperatures, usually in fissures of almost any type of rock. Precious opals display play of colour, while common opal does not. Opals come in nearly any colour of the visual spectrum.
As a healing mineral, opals are used to clear emotions and help balance the chakras. They are also said to reflect mood and intesitfy emotions. This stone of hope is also said to bring good luck.
This precious piece of Ethiopian Opal comes to us from Ethopia as a fairly traded and ethically sourced specimen. It has play of colour on both sides and is a great specimen. It is small, but would be wonderful to add to any collection!
Size is approximately 2 cm x 1.2 cm x 1.2 cm
