MORE INFO ON SWEETGRASS: We encourage you to research
Sweetgrass by all its known names: Sweet Flag: (Calamus, Flag-root).
Scientific Name: Acorus calamus L., Acorus americanus Raf., and
Sweetgrass is also known as Sweetflag, or Calamus Root. There are various species of this plant growing in North America, and other types grow around the world. It has been used by various cultures since biblical times. In the Orient, and in ancient Egypt, it was thought to be a powerful aphrodisiac, while the Turk’s carried the aromatic plant to thwart infectious disease. The Sanskrit Kalamas, the Roman calamus and the Greek Kalamos all refer to the reed of the plant. In North America, this plant has been used by First Nations peoples for medicinal and spiritual purposes.
This sweetgrass was not wild harvested, it was grown on a small family farm in Canada. This is far more sustainable, responsible, respectful and does not deplete sweetgrass growing in the wild.
