Mary Magdelene Statue

Mary Magdelene Statue

We have a special place in our hearts for Mary Magdalene at Dragon Moon. Part of our eclectic beliefs, Mary represents the feminine aspect. In the Christian belief system, Mary Magdalene, sometimes called Mary of Magdala, or simply the Magdalene or the Madeleine, was a woman who, according to the four canonical gospels, travelled with Jesus as one of his followers and was a witness to his crucifixion and resurrection.

In the Pagan pantheon, Mary Magdalene can be seen as a form of the Goddess, the feminine and the mysteries of the Triple Goddess. She is shown here in a lovely cloak, and can work wonderfully on the altar as a depiction of the Mother Goddess.

She is holding a vessel, most likely containing healing waters from the Chalice Well. At her feet is the Chalice Well symbol. The Chalice Well, also known as the Red Spring, is a well situated near the summit of Chalice Hill, a small hill next to Glastonbury Tor in Glastonbury, Somerset, England. It is fascinating that the artist combined two traditions and histories in this beautiful statue. Beside the Chalice Well symbol are two white lilies, representing peace and harmony.

Mary Magdalene is loved by those of many faiths and traditions, and we're so honoured to have this rendition of her in our shop. This depiction of Mary was crafted using a white gypsum clay, and hand painted with golden accents. She was handmade in Canada, and stands 3.25" high. A perfect little statue for your altar.
