Lepidolite (Purple Mica) Specimen
Lepidolite mica is available as a flat sheet-like shape and also as
rough chunks. Generally we carry small to medium lepidolite mica.
Lepidolite is from the Greek word, lepidos, meaning ÒscaleÓ which alludes to the scaly appearance usually common to the mineral. Lepidolite belongs to the mica group which causes the pearly, scale appearance. Micas are fairly light and relatively soft, and the sheets and flakes of mica are flexible.
When handling Mica specimens handle with care. It is normal for some flaking to occur. Mica does not do well in water. And as always, wash hands thoroughly after handling fibrous and raw minerals.
