Lapis Lazuli, Rough

These raw pieces of Lapis are super raw, totally unaltered and natural. Raw crystals tend to have a bit of a powdery surface. Raw Lapis is not as vibrant blue as polished Lapis. These pieces would be wonderful for those who appreciate the raw, unaltered look of minerals. These pieces would also come out very lovely in a rock tumbler. Please note that these raw pieces have a mixture of blue and white colouring, and some pieces have more white than blue. That is the nature of raw Lapis.

Lapis Lazuli is an ancient gem, and as such, has a storied history. Egyptian cultures made a practice of burying a lapis lazuli scarab with their dead, and believed it to offer protection. The very earliest cultures valued lapis lazuli more highly than gold. Greeks spoke of an ancient sapphire which was included with gold, and this was lapis. Some believed that dreaming of lapis would foretell love that would be forever faithful.
