Gem Animal: Stegosaurus
These little guys are adorable and so detailed.
The likeness of a stegosaurus has been hand carved from onyx marble by
Peruvian artisans. Prehistoric stone animals fit easily into gift
baskets and shadow boxes and are fun to create a scene when put in
plants, in the window or a Zen garden.
Onyx is a banded variety
of chalcedony. The colors of its bands range from white to almost every
color (save some shades, such as purple or blue). Commonly, specimens
of onyx contain bands of black and/or white. Onyx is thought to increase
regeneration, happiness, intuition and instincts.
Stegosaurus
were herbivorous, four legged, armored dinosaurs which lived in the US
and Portugal between 145 - 155 million years ago. The spiked plates on
their backs and tails were most likely used to protect them from
predators, one of which was the Allosaurus.
