Cell Fossil, Tumbled

The word fossil is derived from the Latin fossilis meaning 'unearthed'. Preserved evidence of the body parts of ancient animals, plants and other life forms are called 'body fossils'. 'Trace fossils' are the evidence left by organisms in sediment, such as footprints, burrows and plant roots.

Cell Fossil Stone contains small remnants of ancient fossils that were once living beings called Ammonites. They lived during the periods of Earth history known as the Jurassic and Cretaceous. Together, these represent a time interval of about 140 million years. The Jurassic Period began about 201 million years ago and the Cretaceous Period ended about 66 million years ago.

Each tumbled piece measures approximately 20 - 22 mm. Sold in singles.  No two pieces are ever quite the same.
